Product Description
A Very Large Ancient Mayan Ceramic Head from Mexico, c. 500-900 AD. It measures 5"W and depicts the head of a male with expressive features, pronounced nose, one large ear spool (the other ear lost in antiquity), and a wide headdress. Hollow inside, this was originally an embellishment from the edge of a monumental ceramic urn or incensario. With custom wood board for hanging on a wall (mount measures 8.25" x 8.25"). Ex collection of Erich and Helga Welles, NYC, formed in the 1960s. Accompanied by a hand-signed certificate of authenticity which includes all the details, culture, dating, motifs/inscriptions when applicable, historical relevance, and provenance.
