Product Description

Focusing on a smaller part of space than the original Universe in a Sphere, the new Milky Way in a Big Sphere is a laser-etched orb that offers an accurate rendering of our galaxy.

More than 200,000,000,000 stars form this tremendous swirl of suns, planets, and gases. With a diameter of 200,000 lightyears—meaning a journey at the speed of light for two-hundred thousand years from one end to the other— humans can only dream of traveling through it. To even visit our nearest neighbor star, Alpha Centauri, would take you more than 4 years at the speed of light. The ISS—with its 7.6km/s speed—would even take 160,000 years.

The Milky Way in a Big Sphere is the best way to experience the beauty and the vastness of the cosmos. Within this solid glass orb, 200,000 precisely lasered dots map our Galaxy, the Globular Clusters, and the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy with astonishing precision.

Complete with LED base to help bring this sphere to life, you can gaze into this sphere for hours imagining just how small we are.

FAQ
Does it project on the wall?

The Spheres are not specifically designed to project their image on the wall or ceiling, but due to the nature of the material and LED the Spheres (especially the Big Spheres) do partially project an image on the ceiling. Ambient light and the distance between the sphere and ceiling greatly impact the clarity of the projection.

Does this LED base have an AC port with USB cord to run on like the smaller model Galaxy instead of burning through batteries frequently?

The Big bases do have a DC port to plug in a USB cord for example, just like the smaller LED bases.

Does it or the base need to be plugged in?

The base can be powered with 3 AA Batteries or via a DC Power Port (optional USB Power cord available in every hardware store or on cinks-labs.com.)

Does the LED base have colors to select from as well as, white light?

Yes, they have various color schemes and white as well.

Is this an etching only or does the inside move/rotate?

The glass sphere itself does not rotate, and includes the laser etched model.

How accurately do these spheres portray the galaxies?

Provided that we cannot see the forest from the trees in our galaxy and cannot look at it from the outside, every representation of the galaxy is an artistic representation. Nevertheless, we have put a lot of work and research into the making of our model and tried to represent it as convincingly as possible.
